Discrimination or an over-reaction?

Pig farmers have clashed with police in Cairo as they try to stop their animals being taken for slaughter, reports say.

UN health experts have criticised the move as unnecessary and a mistake.

The authorities are carrying out a mass pig cull in what they at first said was a precaution against swine flu but now describe as a general health measure.

Pig-farming and consumption is limited to Egypt’s Christian minority, estimated at 10% of the population.

Can’t be good

Someone who worked for the NHS picked up the virus from first UK case. You have to wonder if other cases are going around undetected.

An NHS clerical worker has become the first person in the UK to contract swine flu without having visited Mexico, tests have confirmed.

Graeme Pacitti, 24, of Falkirk, picked up the virus after contact with the UK’s first cases Iain and Dawn Askham, the Scottish government said.
